Is MAKAN Translate free?
Yes. It is free for everyone. There is no account and there are no ads.
Which languages does it support?
It is made for all languages, not only Persian. The languages you can use depend on the engine you choose.
Where does my text go?
Only to the engine you choose. If you pick an online engine or an AI service, your text goes to that service. If you pick an offline model, it is processed inside the app.
Does it work offline?
Yes, with offline models that run inside the app after a one-time download. Bigger models need several GB of RAM and a first download, and offline quality is lower than good cloud AI.
Do I need an API key?
No for the free online engines. The AI-key engines (Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, OpenRouter, Mistral) need your own key, which stays on your device.
Can it translate PDFs?
Yes, but with limits: some Persian PDFs with unusual fonts can extract as garbage, and scanned PDFs are not read yet unless OCR is added later.
How good are the offline translations?
Offline models can mistranslate technical words, so check important text. Good cloud AI gives better quality.
When can I download it?
The web app, the Windows app (portable exe and installer) and the browser extension for Chrome and Firefox are coming soon. The buttons on this page switch on when each one is live.
